Hotel Zum Riesen

Our hotel 4-star ZUM RIESEN looks back on a colorful history of almost 400 years. At that time the port of Hanau was just on the opposite site of the street and the hotel was an ancient guesthouse, restaurant and substation for horses. Within the years the port was removed and the guesthouse changed into a comfortable hotel. For many decades there was an iron statue of a giant (Riesen is the German word for giant) on the facade of the HOTEL ZUM RIESEN. It was completely destroyed on the 19th of March 1945. There was nothing left from the beautiful medieval city after the war. Many guests are surprised by the sober post-war architecture of Hanau. Luckily, since 2001, a new bronze statue is again on the front corner of the hotel, watching the street and ensuring our guests safety. Many famous guests visited our family-owned hotel. Among them were Napoleon Bonaparte and Ludwig Emil Grimm, who was a painter and younger brother of Jacob und Wilhelm Grimm, the worlds best known tellers and collectors of fairy tales. Since 2014 a bronze statue of Ludwig Emil Grimm is sitting on a bench in front of the hotel, telling the passers-by of his New Years Eve party at the hotel. Some years ago, we expanded our hotel so that, alongside the main buildings beautiful 4 star rooms, we can offer our guests nice 2 star rooms in our dependence RIESENjunior. In the backyard we created a wonderful garden. There you can relax on the terrace and enjoy the green courtyard, listen to the small fountains burbling and forget the stress of everyday life. In the morning from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday we offer our famous and rich breakfast buffet. Since our guests are coming from all over the world we provide them an amazing variability of food: fresh fruits, fried vegetables, different kinds of eggs, bacon, sausages and shrimps, antipasti, salami and French cheese as well as freshly made croissants, a great variability of German bread and cake.
